I 'shadowed' or basically followed around one of the area coordinators today. She thankfully started the day at Starbucks and bought me a coffee. Next we went to Walmart, which is where people with the thickest accents live apparently. Then off to TSU's central offices. I met their residence life department, which is WAY smaller than WSU's, and got my Texan Card (equivalent of a cougar card). I got to eat texmex for dinner, which is what they call mexican food in Texas apparently. I also drank a lot of sweet tea and had my first snow cone! They have three entire stands dedicated to selling just snowcones (example pics above), yet not a single coffee stand... don't know how I feel about this... a lot happened in between, but I won't bore you with the details. Here are the basics:
Things I learned today:
- Texmex = Mexican food in texas
- Walking on the grass on campus = NOT okay
- Everyone swipes their card... I mean everyone to get into a building. They call it 'No tail gaiting'. So even if I am with 3 girls from my hall and one swipes in the other two of us still have to too... even though the door is already open...
- Texas boys are ridiculously attractive... and the accent only helps :)
New lingo (sure I'll be saying these by the end of the summer):
- "He/She is good people"
- "He/She is older than Jesus"
- "Yall", "Ma'am", etc.

This blog is awesome! I cant wait to hear your accent....it is going to be great!

Wait first snow cone ... ever?
ReplyDeleteAlso is there a story behind the grass incident? or did you just get notified/yelled at?
Its funny how Patty says all of that stuff
ReplyDeleteSam - It takes all my will power to not say Y'all or ma'am and it has only been a week... it is going to be a thick accent when I return home haha
ReplyDeleteAna - Unless I was like 5 and just don't remember then yes first snow cone ever. Is it a popular thing that I just haven't caught on to? And the grass incident was an annoyed notification while I walked across the grass.. oops. Apparently their school founder was buried here and they don't know where so walking on grass is like walking on his grave. How creepy is that?
Scoots - I hope it doesn't annoy you because I'm sure I'll be saying all of the above by the time I return to WA. Also where is your blog dude??! Also no one says dude here... :(
I like the milk picture! I'm sure Ana hated it lol! The lingo is funny and please bring me a tall Texan man with an accent haha they are so polite with all their "miss" and "ma'ams"!
ReplyDeleteI will bring you one if I can find myself one that is not engaged or married first... :) miss you btw! how is the Marriott?!!?!
